HOW TO APPLY
To apply for a grant, simply fill out our online application. At the same time, e-mail a few photos (j-peg format) of your program at work with permission to use them in our marketing.
Applications should be completed by the Executive Director or Grants Manager.
Note: Even if you have received grants before, we’ll need an annual application to ensure your continued participation.
GRANT CYCLE
We review and issue grants quarterly. Closing dates for applications are the 15th of March, June, September and December respectively. If you don’t receive a grant in the quarter you apply, you can try again later.
GRANT ELIGIBILITY
Grass Roots Grants are available to small-to-medium 501(c)3 public charities working locally to improve New Mexico’s quality of life and file either the US-990 or US-990-EZ.
GRANT TYPES
Basic grants are our default grants and are issued to boost the overall strength of your organization.
They range from $1,000 to $50,000 annually depending on your adjusted US-990 reported program expense.
We’ll release 50% of the grant in the quarter the application is approved. And, subject to reapproval, we’ll release the balance 6 months later.
Targeted Grants help specific hands-on projects grow.
In addition to the online application, supporting information may be needed. So we recommend you contact us prior to applying.
The amounts of targeted grants vary and, depending on the size or purpose, may be pro-rated over four quarters with each quarter subject to reapproval.
Targeted grants can be provided in addition to or in place of a basic grant at our discretion.
GRANT SERVICE AREA
We welcome applications from anywhere in New Mexico.
PROGRAM EXCLUSIONS
We exclude organizations under 3 years old, those that are not in good standing with government regulations or are not up-to-date on government reporting. Applications must be completed by the organization’s executive director or grants manager.
Faith-based, politically-focused, or research-oriented programs or organizations are not eligible.
Grants do not cover capital expenses, scholarships, debt retirement or travel or meeting expenses.
DISCLOSURES
All grants are subject to the final approval of Vanguard Charitable.
This program, or your participation in it, can be modified or terminated at any time at our sole discretion.
